Audi A4 gets efficient new engines

Two new engines have been added to the Audi A4 range - a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol motor, and a high-economy version of its 2.0-litre diesel.

The new petrol engine produces 209bhp and 258lb ft of pulling power. This propels the A4 saloon from 0-62mph in 6.9sec and on to a limited top speed of 155mph. It averages 42.8mpg and emits 154g/km of carbon dioxide.

The 119bhp diesel engine is a detuned version of the existing 141bhp 2.0-litre motor, and has 214lb ft of torque.

It records a 0-62mpg time of 10.7sec and has a top speed of 127mph. Average fuel economy is 55.4mpg and it emits 134g/km of CO2.

Although the economy figures are impressive, they don't match the 141bhp BMW 318d's 60.1mpg and CO2 emissions of 123g/km.

The 119bhp 2.0 diesel Audi A4 saloon will cost from 22,150, the 2.0 TFSI from 24,625. You can order them now, but the first cars won't arrive until mid-July.
