Best cars for less than £350 per month

A new car doesn't have to break the bank, with these stylish SUVs, practical family cars and spacious people carriers all available for less than £350 per month...

Range Rover Evoque with Target Price logo

These days, the majority of new car purchases are made on personal contract purchase (PCP) deals. This type of financing is great, because it allows you to buy a new car that you might otherwise have been unable to afford.

A monthly budget of £350 for a new car is achievable for many of us, and the good news is that you can end up driving some of the best new cars on the market for that sort of money.

This list of our top buys has been compiled using our Target Price research, which shows you the most you should pay for a new car. As well as telling you a bit about each model, we'll also tell you the deal terms and how much you'll pay. Each of our deals is based on a 15% deposit.

4: Nissan Qashqai

Target Price cost per month: £324 Target Price: £27,282 The deal: 48 months' PCP finance with 4.9% APR and a finance contribution of £2250. Limit of 8000 miles per year

Arguably, the Qashqai is the car that started the family SUV revolution, and although the Range Rover Evoque, Peugeot 3008 and Volvo XC40 are better all-rounders today, the Qashqai is still very recommendable. This 1.3-litre petrol engine is gutsy and economical, making it the best bet for most buyers, and Tekna+ trim comes loaded with goodies, including Nappa leather seats.

9. Skoda Kodiaq 2.0 TDI SE L 4x4 DSG [7 Seat]

Save money on a new Skoda Kodiaq with What Car? >>

2020 Skoda Kodiaq front - 69-plate car

Target Price cost per month: £332 Target Price: £30,906 The deal: 48 months' PCP finance with 3.9% APR and a finance contribution of £3500. Limit of 10,000 miles per year

The Kodiaq is proof that getting a large SUV with space for up to seven people need not cost the Earth. This is Skoda's largest SUV, and it's supremely practical inside while also offering excellent value for money. The 2.0-litre diesel engine you get here has 148bhp on tap, and that's enough to haul you around with little drama, even if all seven seats are filled.

8. Volkswagen Touran 2.0 TDI SE Family DSG auto

Volkswagen Touran front

Target Price cost per month: £315 Target Price: £27,372 The deal: 48 months' PCP finance with 5.4% APR and a finance contribution of £3600. Limit of 10,000 miles per year

Until recently, the Touran was our favourite people carrier. And even though it loses out to the Citroën Berlingo these days, it remains one of the best MPVs on sale, with space for seven people and all of their luggage. This 2.0-litre diesel engine pulls strongly, even when the whole family is on board, and there's an automatic gearbox to make driving as easy as possible.

Mazda CX-5

Target Price cost per month: £311 Target Price: £31,593 The deal: 42 months PCP finance with 0% APR. Limit of 8000 miles per year

You might think that not having the option of seven seats would be a serious disadvantage for the CX-5 in the large SUV market, but if you don't need to carry seven people, it's a fantastic family choice. This diesel engine is a true workhorse, while Sport models come with every feature you're likely to need, including heated front seats and an electric tailgate.

Target Price cost per month: £334 Target Price: £32,087 The deal: 48 months' PCP finance with 5.1% APR and a finance contribution of £5000. Limit of 8000 miles per year

The Audi TT mixes great looks with decent practicality and an engaging driving experience – little wonder, then, that it has collected entire cases of What Car? Awards trophies over the years . The latest version is wonderful to drive, plus it has a fabulous interior and a surprisingly practical boot.

2019 Mercedes A-Class

Target Price cost per month: £320 Target Price: £29,037 The deal: 48 months' PCP finance with 4.9% APR. Limit of 10,000 miles per year

The A-Class is Mercedes' rival to premium hatchbacks that include the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series. It offers a stunning interior that features a great infotainment system, and is good to drive. It's pricey, though, which is why this discounted deal is worth paying attention to.

Audi Q3

Target Price cost per month: £324 Target Price: £29,989 The deal: 48 months' PCP finance with 6.5% APR and a finance contribution of £3500. Limit of 8000 miles per year

Audi's family SUV is practical, loaded with tech and decent to drive. Its big boot and impressive interior space make it a fine choice for families, while the 1.5-litre petrol engine you get with this version is our recommended choice, offering peppy performance while keeping running costs sensible. It's well equipped, too, and this version comes with Audi's Comfort & Sound Pack already included.

3. Citroën Berlingo 1.5 BlueHDi 130 Flair M EAT8 auto

Citroën Berlingo Puretech 110 Feel M

Target Price cost per month: £319 Target Price: £24,280 The deal: 48 months' PCP finance with 3.9% APR and a finance contribution of £500. Limit of 8000 miles per year

The Berlingo is our reigning champion in the MPV market, and if you need to carry seven passengers while also having space for all of their luggage, little else comes close. It's superbly practical, then, but add in excellent value for money and a gutsy 1.5-litre diesel engine that suits high-mileage drivers well, and it's a truly great choice.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque front tracking RHD

Target Price cost per month: £339 Target Price (on the road): £35,076 The deal: 48 months PCP finance with 3.9% APR and a finance contribution of £500. Limit of 8000 miles per year

It speaks for the popularity and effectiveness of PCP finance deals that you can drive an award-winning family SUV – and one of the best new cars on the market – for less than £350 per month. The Evoque is simply sensational, with lots of equipment and a great driving position. This version gets you a 2.0-litre petrol engine which is quicker than any of the diesels on offer, but only if you're prepared to work it hard.

1. Peugeot 5008 Puretech 130 Allure

Save money on a new Peugeot 5008 with What Car? >>

2019 Peugeot 5008 front left tracking RHD

Target Price cost per month: £334 Target Price (on the road): £27,836 The deal: 48 months' PCP finance with 5.9% APR and a finance contribution of £1650. Limit of 8000 miles per year

You might think that a small 1.2-litre petrol engine in a large SUV like this would seem a poor choice, but this punchy petrol revs freely and is enough for the 5008 to be comfortably swift, even when all seven seats are filled. Allure is our favourite trim level, bringing dual-zone climate control and 18in alloy wheels. We like the 5008 so much, in fact, that we named it as our 2020 Large SUV of the Year.
