Car of the Year Awards 2026: Best estate car for value
While estates lack the fashionable status of SUVs, they’re more practical. But an estate also needs to be a pleasure to spend time in, and easy to live with beyond the simple virtue of space...
Seat Leon Estate 1.5 TSI 115 SE

So, the Skoda Superb Estate is right at the top of its game in all of the practical disciplines that an estate should be judged by, but what if you don’t need quite such Herculean carrying capacity and you’re working to a tighter budget? Well, the Seat Leon Estate was made for you.
While the Leon Estate gives away 70 litres of boot space to the Superb, it still trounces most other wagons in its price range – as well as a great many costlier models. And while the Leon doesn’t offer as much rear seat space as the Superb, aspiring jockeys and junior basketball players alike will be comfortable enough in the back.

Although few such cars are bought on the promise of driver appeal, the Leon is very strong in this regard; in common with the Leon hatchback, the estate version has crisp, accurate steering and – especially with the sports suspension of FR trim – refrains from leaning much in corners.
We’d go for the cheaper SE trim, though, because in this guise the Leon Estate’s ride is more forgiving over bumps and potholes. It also comes with a respectable amount of standard equipment, while substantially undercutting the Superb Estate SE L on price.
