Deal of the Day: Lease a Renault 5 from £218 per month
The Renault 5 is our favourite electric car on the market, and you could lease one for a keen price with our deals...

If you think you can’t get an electric car for an affordable price, then the Renault 5 might have you thinking again. Indeed, this stylish small car isn’t just cheap to buy; it’s also great to drive.
In fact, we like the R5 so much, we named it our 2025 overall What Car? Car of the Year, thanks to its grown-up driving manners and excellent value for money. So, if that all sounds good to you, you might be pleased to know that you could put a new one on your driveway for as little as £218 per month.
To do that, you’ll need to opt for a 24-month contract with an annual mileage limit of 6000 miles, and an initial payment of £2608.58. The annual 6000 mile restriction isn’t a huge allowance, so you’ll have to be careful to avoid excess mileage charges.
If you regularly cover more miles, you could opt for a more common 36-month, 10,000-mile agreement with six months initial rental (£1710.68), which will cost £285.11 per month.

There are two versions of the R5, but our Deal of the Day is the more powerful Comfort Range variant, which uses a 52kWh (usable capacity) battery alongside a 148bhp electric motor. With that juice, the R5 can sprint from 0-62mph in 7.9sec – far nippier than any Citroën ë-C3 or Hyundai Inster. If it’s pure pace you’re after, though, it’s worth taking a look at the speedier Mini Cooper Electric SE.
We’d plump for the Comfort Range over the entry-level Urban Range variant thanks to its longer range of 252 miles (compared with 193 miles). That gives you extra peace of mind on longer trips, though it likely won’t achieve those rates in everyday driving – we estimate the Comfort Range has a real-world figure of 160-210 miles, depending on the conditions.

If you regularly drive through the city, you’ll find that the R5 is perfectly suited to narrow urban roads, thanks to its tight turning circle and light steering. However, the R5 is also impressive on faster roads, with its confidence-inspiring handling and plenty of grip, especially in Sport mode.
Despite the R5’s retro exterior styling, it’s thoroughly modern inside, with a 10.3in digital driver’s display and 10.1in infotainment touchscreen powered by Google. It includes plenty of kit, such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an integrated sat-nav. There are physical controls underneath the touchscreen for climate control, which are nice and easy to operate on the move.
As you might expect from a small car, the R5 doesn’t offer masses of interior space, but it’s still comfortable by class standards. Taller adults sitting in the front are well catered for, as there’s plenty of headroom, and the front seats slide a long way back on their runners. Passengers in the back will feel a little more cramped. However, unlike some of its rivals, (such as the Fiat 500e and Mini Cooper Electric) the R5 has rear doors, which make it more easily accessible.
We managed to fit a respectable four carry-on suitcases into the R5’s boot below the parcel shelf – plus our Deal of the Day comes with space under the boot floor for storing the charging cable.
Our Deal of the Day comes in our favourite Techno+ trim, which comes with a pre-conditioning function for the battery (so it’s at the perfect temperature to charge quickly when you plug in), adaptive cruise control and some extra paint options for the exterior, on top of the standard automatic air-conditioning, keyless entry and heat pump.
