When the current version was launched back in 2020, the Peugeot 2008 had some lofty ambitions. With a price tag that puts top-spec cars among more premium rivals, it managed to deliver luxury in a number of areas, especially with its upmarket interior.

There are three versions of the 2008: a 99bhp 1.2-litre petrol, a 129bhp 1.2-litre petrol and the Hybrid 145, which is essentially a mild hybrid (MHEV) version of the 129bhp option.
Our favourite is the 129bhp PureTech 130 because it offers impressively flexible performance and a nice amount of oomph at low revs. Opting for that engine with mid-spec GT trim will save you £8800, and you get some extra creature comforts including full LED headlights, keyless entry, a reversing camera and interior ambient lighting.
The mild hybrid option uses the same 1.2-litre petrol engine, but it comes assisted by electric power to keep your fuel bills low. It gets slightly more power, at 134bhp, and it’s matched to a six-speed automatic gearbox.
When you combine the MHEV 2008 with entry-level Allure trim, you get a small SUV with automatic air-con, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring – which is good, because you don’t get a sat-nav as standard. Opting for this model will save you up to £5685.
Specifying the MHEV option with top-spec GT Premium trim gets you a host of added extras, including 18in alloy wheels, heated front seats that get electric lumbar adjustment, a sat-nav and wireless phone charging. That combination will save you up to £8920.
