A new range-topping Audi SUV, a stretched version of the Volkswagen Tiguan and Kia's all-new sports saloon were just some of our highlights from this week's Detroit motor show.

Although primarily a stomping ground for US manufacturers to showcase their new models, increasingly new cars launched here can have global significance, and many of the new models revealed in Detroit will be heading to the UK before long.

We've collated the best new cars into one place, and below are our star cars from the Detroit motor show.

Audi Q8

Audi's new range-topping Q8 is a coupé-SUV, and is aimed at style-conscious buyers looking for luxurious family transport. The version shown in Detroit was a plug-in hybrid, and can travel for up to 37 miles on electric power alone, but when the car goes on sale next year, it will also be available with a range of V6 and V8 petrol and diesel engines, many of which will be shared with the seven-seat Audi Q7.

Infiniti QX50

The QX50 shows what Infiniti's future SUV models will look like, and also previews the company's autonomous driving software. Although the self-driving system won't yet take full control of the car, it will drive for you in stop-start traffic on the motorway and track the positions of other cars. The production version will replace the current QX50 in 2018 and take on the likes of the Audi Q5 and BMW X3.

Kia Stinger

Kia's Stinger will cost around £41,000 when it goes on sale in the UK this October. Destined to take on sleek models such as the Audi A5 Sportback and Jaguar XF, it's capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 5.1sec in its most potent form. A diesel variant will join the range soon after the Stinger goes on sale.

Lexus LS

The LS has always been a niche choice in the luxury saloon market, as rivals including the Audi A8 and Mercedes S-Class have grown to become leviathans of the class. This new LS will go on sale towards the end of this year, and buyers should eventually be able to choose between a V6 petrol engine and a hybrid version. Its interior looks suitably luxurious, too.
