If youre buying
When phoning about something youve spotted in the classifieds, always say: Im phoning about the car for sale. If the seller asks, Which one? theyre probably a dealer or back-street trader posing as a private seller. The car youre after might not be fit for sale on a forecourt, so theyre trying to off-load it to an unsuspecting buyer.

If youre selling
Make sure youre prompt when following up any potential buyers, and you have all the cars vital information to hand when talking to them. If a buyer really is in the market for your car, they should be enthusiastic and eager to see it. If they come across as disinterested or vague, they probably arent serious. Beware of traders who call, talk the price down and then try to close the deal over the phone.
