Ford's 100 years in photos  18/52

Ford is celebrating 100 years in Britain by delving into its archive of photographs.

This week we see the lengths Ford had to take to collect telemetry data from test vehicles in the 1970s.

The recording equipment was so big it had to be fitted into a second car, and because there was no wireless communication technology the two vehicles had to be tethered together.

These days Ford, and our road testers, can collect the same kind of data with devices that can fit in the palm of your hand and send the information around the world at the press of a button.
