Good week, bad week: February 26

It's our review of the good and the bad in a week of motoring-related ups-and-downs

Saab and Hummer
Its certainly been a good week for Saab because the sale to Spyker has been finalised, but a bad week for Hummer after its bail-out by a Chinese manufacturer fell through.

So, while the Swedish brand lives on in the hands of the Dutch supercar manufacturer, it seems that Hummer's high-polluting days are numbered with Tengzhong's decision to pull out and owner GM's resolution to wind it down.

Cash for electric cars
Its been a good week for electric cars, however, because the Government's has finally announced the details of its scheme to pay up to 5000 towards the purchase cost of such cars.

Jaguar Land Rover has reason to break a corporate smile, after it secured a 340 million loan to develop hybrid versions of its cars.

Another bad week for Toyota
Things still haven't improved at Toyota, where the company's bosses have been gauging on humble pie in front of a US Congressional committee hearing into the companys recalls.

Geneva motor show
The Geneva motor show kicks off next week, so manufacturers have been rushing to push their new metal including the fast Audi RS5, hybrid Lexus CT200h, Porsche Cayenne and a plug-in Lotus Evora with sounds-effects that wouldn't be out of place in a Star Wars movie.

And finally
Its also been a good week for first drives, because weve got behind the wheel of the Jaguar XJ and Vauxhall Meriva.
