Honda showcases electric EV concept

Honda will display its all-new electric Honda EV concept car at the Geneva motor show next month.

The EV will be part of the manufacturer's 'road to zero emissions' theme at the show, which will showcase its current hybrids alongside its near-future technology of plug-in vehicles and the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, the FCX Clarity.

Honda says the EV concept car hints strongly at the technology and styling of its upcoming electric car the Fit EV which will be launched in Japan and the US in 2012.

The EV concept car is designed for city-based commuters, and has a 100-mile range. The five-passenger layout is the same as that found in the company's Jazz hatchback.

Plug-in hybrid
Alongside the EV Concept car on its Geneva motor show stand, Honda will also be showcasing its next-generation twin-motor hybrid system.

The two-motor system continuously moves through three different modes to maximise driving efficiency: all-electric, petrol-electric and an engine direct-drive mode. The plug-in hybrid also uses regenerative braking to charge the battery.
