MG Go concept previews new electric small car rival to Renault 5

The concept revealed at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed features a bold appearance and a sporty streak

MG is a brand which is forging ahead with a raft of new models, so it seems fitting that its latest should be called MG Go – a small electric car in the mould of the Renault 5.

Should it go into production, it would be the brand’s smallest EV offering, sitting alongside the hybrid-powered MG3 and below the MG4 Urban. As a result, it would rival the Mini Cooper Electric and the upcoming Cupra Raval.

The concept’s appearance differs from other MG models, featuring an overall boxier design with rounded, ‘bug eye’-like headlights which feature two vertical strips, and a large, flat panel where a grille might go on a combustion engined car.

Rather than featuring a conventional set of door handles, rear passengers enter the small electric car by interacting with the MG logo on the doorframes.

It’s likely that some of the Go’s more extreme elements – including its large front and rear spoilers, the front LED light panel and the extremely flared out wheel arches – would be toned down for a production version.

Nevertheless, Jozef Kabaň, Vice President of Design at MG, suggested that a sporty version of the Go shouldn’t be ruled out: “If the Go [concept car] were a human, you’d say they were dressed for a sporty event like Goodwood [Festival of Speed], but when Goodwood is over, they’d dress a little more casually. They’d be the same person, just not quite so sporty looking.

“But that’s not to say they couldn’t get dressed up again; there will be some different versions we could experience. It’s a new playground and proof that a smaller car doesn’t have to be low value, it could offer lots of attitude and character.”

Similarly, MG has yet to reveal any technical details for the Go; however, the production version will need to be capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in about eight seconds and cover around 250 miles between charges to compete with the Raval and Renault 5.
