Hyundai's new i30 is taking on some of the UK's best family cars - so does it deserve a place on your shortlist?...

New Hyundai i30 reviewed on video

The Hyundai i30 is a family hatchback which rivals some of the best selling cars in the UK, primarily the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra. It's been fairly well received, too, but its vague steering and outdated engine range have kept it from being among the best in this class.

Now, though, there's a new i30. Set to go on sale in the UK from March, the third-generation i30 has been given a new range of engines, more equipment, a smarter interior and a long list of standard safety equipment, including automatic emergency braking. It's also bigger than the old i30, and that means more space inside for both passengers and luggage.

Hyundai says it's improved the i30's ride and steering to make the car more comfortable over long distances, and also to give drivers more involvement. So, what's it like to drive, and has Hyundai done enough to worry the likes of Ford and Vauxhall? Rory White has been to Spain to find out.
