Nissan reveal Esflow electric sports car

Nissan has revealed the first pictures of its Esflow electric sports car concept.

It uses technology pioneered in the Leaf small family car, but is a smaller, two-seat, rear-wheel-drive coupe.

It has two electric motors one for each rear wheel and has a claimed 0-62mph time of less than five seconds.

The lithium-ion battery pack is straight from the Leaf and gives the car a 149-mile range.

A super-stiff roll cage behind the seats is designed to take the full weight of the car in the event of roll-over, which means the windscreen pillars can be much thinner.

As in previous small, sporty concept cars from Nissan, the pedals and steering wheel adjust, rather than the seats. The drive-by-wire technology used to achieve this helps to cut the weight of the car.

The Esflow uses existing powertrain technology, so could be production-ready in as little as two years, although there's no official green light for the project just yet.

We'll find out more about its prospects at the Geneva motor show on March 1.
