New Seat Arona vs used Seat Ateca: which is best?

Both of these Spanish SUVs are great buys – but for the same cash, does a brand new Seat Arona or a used Seat Ateca make the most sense?

New Seat Arona vs used Seat Ateca – alternatives

The Arona finds itself among a glut of rivals, none of which are actually very good – so it’s probably the best of the bunch. There’s always the Volkswagen T-Roc – but it’s expensive and feels rather cheap inside.

The Ateca, meanwhile, has stiffer competition to deal with. Its best-known rival is the Nissan Qashqai, which is immensely popular and feels great to drive. It feels smart inside, too, though reliability concerns prevent it from being the best of the bunch.

New Seat Arona vs used Seat Ateca – which is best?

It shouldn’t come as a great surprise that the used Ateca is the better car here – but its biggest problem is the financial implications with which it comes. It’s more expensive to buy – especially if you want to budget for the extended warranty – and more costly to run, too – unless you can find a pre-April 2017 example. Nevertheless, if you can stretch to the extra cost, it’s probably worth it.

That said, if you’re buying on a budget, the Arona is the most sensible choice. What it offers you isn’t far off the Ateca, and while you’ll have to live up with a lower-rent dashboard, a more cramped interior, a smaller boot, and slightly less equipment, you’ll still find it a pleasant car to own and drive – and what’s more, you’ll get the peace of mind of a longer warranty and lower fuel bills.
