Toyota recalls 5409 UK vehicles

Toyota is recalling over 5000 UK cars due to potential failure of the electric power steering system.

advertisment

The fault affects Yaris and Verso-S models built between November 2010 and March 2012. Of the 174,000 vehicles affected globally, 5409 were UK-registered models. Only four instances of the failure have occurred in the UK, and Toyota stresses that no accidents or injuries have been recorded as a result.

Failure of the power steering control unit is the cause of the problem. If it occurs the steering will get heavier (this will be most obvious at low speeds). An alarm and dashboard warning light also signify the fault.

Remedial work takes no more than two hours to complete and iscarried out for free at Toyota workshops.

Customers can check whether their vehicle is affected using a dedicated recall checker on the Toyota website or by calling Toyota Customer Services on 0800 1388744.
