BMW 5 Series

Our recommendation – buy used

Some weeks this competition is closely run, but on others there's a clear winner. This time, it's most definitely the latter. While the Skoda Superb is just as good as its name implies, offering low running costs, a spacious interior and a comfortable ride, it can't quite match up to the superior nature of the BMW 5 Series.

This luxurious saloon was named as our Car of the Year in 2017, for moving the executive car game on to a point where it was safely competing with cars that cost a lot more. It's supremely comfortable, comes with all the kit you could want – including one of the best infotainment systems you'll find in any new car – and provides plenty of space for a growing family. And at the prices we've found, it's a bargain, too.
