What Car? Personal Shopper: best two four-wheel drive cars for £50,000

Want a new car but don't know where to start? Just send us your criteria and we'll give our new and used car choices, and tell you how much we can save you
BMW X1 and Jaguar F-Pace

Our recommendation: buy used

Both our new and used choices would suit you down to the ground, but the win here has to go to the Jaguar F-Pace and BMW X1 combination. While the new Range Rover Evoque, which Darren, picked is truly at the top of the family SUV tree, someone is always going to feel short-changed when they're pointed to the driver's door of the Dacia Duster. And that's not to diminish the Duster's achievements – it's a supremely capable and spacious car – but it's not what you would call premium.

So the win goes to Max's pairing. The F-Pace is a large and luxurious SUV, and the BMW X1 is itself comfortable and capable car. Both will see you smiling all year round, come rain, snow or sun. And both are large enough to take taller drivers and passengers too. The fact that you can get both for under £50,000 only sweetens the deal.

Our recommendation this time, then, is to buy used.
