Used Peugeot 508 SW 2011-2018 reliability review

Sleek styling sets the Peugeot 508 SW apart from its rivals, and its low prices and efficient engines add financial appeal

What should I look for in a used Peugeot 508?

The Peugeot 508 SW is a long car and its thick windscreen pillars obstruct visibility, so check for scrapes and dents to the bumpers. Parking sensors were an option on Access and Active, while Allure spec cars and above added rear sensors as standard.

Larger alloy wheels on GT models could be susceptible to kerbing. Have a look at all the wheels for any damage, because alloy wheels can be expensive to fix.

Is a used Peugeot 508 reliable?

The 508 SW wasn’t included in out latest What Car? Reliability survey, but the Peugeot brand as a whole came in 27th place out of 32 brands featured, which isn’t exactly great.

There have been a few recalls, the most recent ones being a problem with the starter relay, which could affect the starting operation and damage the starter motor. The other is related to the starter power supply wire, which can chafe with neighbouring engine components. If you're in any doubt, get your local Peugeot dealer to check if your prospective purchase is affected.
