The new Vauxhall Astra will go on sale in autumn 2015, company boss Karl-Thomas Neumann has confirmed.
He was speaking at the announcement of the creation of 550 jobs in the UK – 300 of which will be based at Ellesmere Port, where the new Astra will be built, and 250 of which will be at Vauxhall's Luton plant, where the Vivaro van is made. He said: 'The next generation of Vauxhalls is where we must show commitment.
'Already we have vehicles that are ahead of customers' expectations, but the next generations of product will move us on a step again. With that, we must also show commitment to going the extra step in every area, not just in terms of the product but also the dealership network, our employee motivation, the customer satisfaction levels – everything.
'We have made progress, and last year Opel held its market share for the first time in 14 years. We expect to break even at some point in 2015, and then build for profit.'
The new Vauxhall Astra is just part of a new product assault by parent company Opel. This autumn the new Vauxhall Corsa will go on sale, and next spring a new city car, called the Vauxhall Viva, will be launched.
