For The Touran has a spacious, solid cabin and is good to drive. Some excellent engines are available and all versions are well equipped.
Against You have to lift out the middle row seats for maximum load space. Top-spec versions cost the same as larger, more practical rivals.
The Touran is classy and good to drive. It's practical, too, but it’s not as roomy or clever as some rivals and the interior is rather dull.
The Touran is a fine family car. It’s not as roomy as the likes of a Peugeot 5008 or Ford S-Max, or VW’s own Sharan, for that matter, but it has space for seven, or transforms into a five-seater with a massive boot. Its more compact dimensions make it easy to park, too.
Even the lowest-spec Touran comes with plenty of kit, so for us the cheaper models make most sense. At the higher end of the price range the Touran is competing against much larger, more spacious rivals.
We haven’t yet driven every engine, but can confirm that the 138bhp diesel model is impressively punchy and refined. If you’re not going to be doing a lot of long journeys, the smaller-engined 1.6 diesel version may make more sense, though.
