Generous proportions means the i30 is roomy. You’d have to be very tall to feel hemmed in and there’s enough room for long legs and big feet in the footwells.
Manual driver’s seat-height adjustment is standard for all models; front passenger seat-height adjustment is standard on the top two trim levels for the three-door but it’s not available as an option for the rest of the i30 range.
There’s plenty of storage in the front of the cabin, with large, deep door bins, a lidded cubby between the seats on all but entry-level models and a useful space at the base of the centre console.
Hyundai i30 rear space
The i30 is one of the more family-friendly cars in its class, with good head room but tighter leg room for rear-seat passengers. It’s roomier than a Ford Focus or Peugeot 308, albeit not as spacious as cars such as the Nissan Pulsar and Skoda Octavia.
The rear seat itself is well shaped and comfortable, while an almost-flat floor (there’s a very low centre tunnel) makes it more comfortable for someone in the middle seat than in most rivals. Rear storage is limited, with small door bins on both doors but access is good with decent-size rear doors.
Hyundai i30 seating flexibility
The i30 has 60/40 split folding rear seatbacks as standard, but that’s the extent of its repertoire – the rear seats don’t slide or, as with the Honda Civic, fold upwards to provide more space. There is a through-loading hatch on all but entry-level S models for long items such as skis, though.
It’s easy to fold the rear seats for more load space, but it leaves a small step in the boot floor and when the seatbacks are folded they don’t lie completely flat as they’re propped up by the bases.
Hyundai i30 boot space
The boot has a reasonably low lip and offers 395 litres of load space; that’s a little more than a VW Golf and a lot more than the Ford Focus provides. It’s not a match for class giants such as the Skoda Octavia, but it’s better than average. With the rear seats folded flat (and the seat cushions themselves folded forwards), that volume increases to an equally impressive 1301 litres.
The boot is impressively deep and a regular shape, too, with good access, although it’s not as wide as you might expect inside.
