Car of the Year Awards 2023: Best 7-seater for luxury
An interior with space for seven people is obviously a prerequisite in this class, but we also expect an upmarket feel, sensible costs, and top-notch comfort and refinement...
BMW X7 xDrive40i Excellence

If you’re lucky enough to have both a large family and sufficient cash to shop in the luxury SUV market, the BMW X7 has more than just the X factor – it has the XXL factor. It’s huge.
If you fill every seat, everyone on board will have more space to stretch out than they would in an Audi Q7 or Mercedes GLS, and six-footers can comfortably use the rearmost two seats. When all seven seats are in use, the boot can take a couple of carry-on suitcases, or you can fold seats six and seven into the boot floor to provide a vast, flat luggage area.

What really makes the X7 special is how it offers all that practicality while retaining a deluxe feel. Occupants are surrounded by beautifully crafted fixtures and fittings, and there’s also an excellent infotainment system and masses of standard kit, even on entry-level Excellence trim.
Match that to the smooth, strong xDrive40i petrol engine and you’ll have the best luxury seven-seater in town.
