Despite the fashion for SUVs, the traditional small car remains the most popular type on the road, with the best brilliant all-rounders that offer excellent value for money...
Dacia Sandero 1.0 TCe Bi-Fuel Expression

You might recognise the Dacia Sandero as a regular holder of the ‘cheapest car in the UK’ crown, but there’s a lot more to like about this low-cost small hatchback. Fortunately, the days of ‘cheapest’ and ‘low-cost’ meaning a car so basic that you have to put up with unpainted bumpers and window winders have long gone.

In our preferred trim, higher-spec Expression, the Sandero comes with plenty of kit, including an 8.0in touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control and air conditioning. It can’t match the Honda Jazz for rear seat versatility, but it does have a bigger boot, with space for one more carry-on suitcase. It isn’t far behind for front and rear occupant space, either.
There’s more. Our preferred Bi-Fuel engine runs on petrol or cheaper liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), so it can potentially save you a lot in fuel costs. The Bi-Fuel Sandero is also slightly punchier, smoother and quieter than the petrol-only option.
