DeLorean's back - on a concept album

John DeLorean enjoyed a colourful life, earning plaudits for designing the Pontiac GTO muscle car, quizzical looks for producing the DeLorean DMC-12 sports car and notoriety for escaping cocaine smuggling charges on a legal technicality.

But even he couldn't have expected to have his life story turned into a concept music album by a hairy Welsh singer, appropriately christened Gruff Rhys, and an LA-based producer called Boom Bip, who presumably didn't like the name his parents gave him.

That's just what's happening, though.

Almost three years after DeLorean's death, Rhys, who's also well-known for warbling in Welsh for a group called the Super Furry Animals, and Bip have formed a band called band Neon Neon, which is preparing to release the album Stainless Style in late February.

Details, much like DeLorean's later business dealings, remain sketchy, beyond the news that the album will 'explore the life and times of John DeLorean'.

However, we're guessing iconic tunes The Power of Love by Huey Lewis and Johnny B Goode by The Starlighters won't feature as prominently as they did in cult 1980s film Back to the Future, in which the DeLorean DMC-12 starred alongside Michael J Fox.
