Hire car
Q: I have seen a car that I'm interested in buying; however it's an ex-hire car from Jersey. Will I need to re-register the car? Will it be UK spec and covered by Ford's Warranty, and what will be the effect on its residual value?

advertisment

A: Large numbers of hire cars from the Channel Islands end up on mainland forecourts, and it's an established source of used vehicles. Generally they are not imports, but if you want to be certain, check the Vehicle Identification Number with a franchised dealer. They'll also be able to tell you about the car's warranty cover.

You won't need to register the car in the UK, and it should come with a valid V5 registration document.

The car's residual value shouldn't be any lower than others of the same age, make or model.
