The graphics on the Q8’s 10.1in infotainment touchscreen – the upper of the two central screens – are pin-sharp and the menus are laid out in a logical manner, but the system isn’t perfect. It’s too easy to accidentally select something when you’re scrolling, and we’d prefer physical shortcut buttons to icons. Sure, it’s a good touchscreen, but we can’t help but think the dial-controlled system in the Q7 is easier and safer to use on the move.

At 10.0in, the Velar’s touchscreen is fractionally smaller than the Q8’s. Its graphics are impressively sharp, although it isn’t as logically laid out or as responsive as the Q8’s system. Again, it has shortcut icons, but they are frustratingly small. While the Q8 gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, these aren’t available on the Velar. Instead, you have to download a specific Land Rover app that doesn’t work as smoothly.
