New Kia Sorento & Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace vs Peugeot 5008
Our verdict
Before we announce the verdict, it’s worth mentioning that each of these large SUVs has a different set of skills. Just because your favourite didn’t win doesn’t mean you should rule it out. Take the Kia Sorento. Hefty running costs, lumbering handling and the lack of automatic emergency braking (AEB) mean it has to finish last. But it's actually the most practical car here.
In second place is the Peugeot 5008. While this might be a surprise, given that it’s our favourite large SUV, this car makes far more sense at the lower end of its range. Cheaper trims bring a softer ride (due to smaller wheels) and the ability to avoid the head room-robbing panoramic roof.
So our champion in this match-up is the VW Tiguan Allspace. It has the least roomy third row and its interior is a bit drab, but it’s the most comfortable, the most enjoyable to drive and still significantly more practical than a five-seat SUV. It’s a narrow victory, but a win’s a win.
