Tips for getting value for money
Shop around. Competition is strong, so always compare a number of garages beforehand.
Main and independent garages will have offers on from time to time, so ring up and find out whether theyre doing a deal when you want one.
Consider a service package. Franchised dealers in particular offer bundles that cover several years servicing via an advance payment or in monthly instalments. Its a good way to manage your costs.
Be clear about what it is you want from the garage. If the staff dont know what you want then you wont get it. Being obvious and concise makes it easier for mechanics.
Visit www.motorcodes.co.uk, boschcarservice.co.uk or trustmygarage.co.uk and run a postcode search to find subscribing garages in your area.
Dont be afraid to walk away. If you dont trust the quote youre being given, or the work required, then theres nothing to stop you from leaving. Remember: its your car and your money.
If a garage is treating you badly, contact Consumer Direct on 0845 404 0506 or www.oft.gov.uk for further advice.
