City

City cars are all about dinky dimensions, maximum manoeuvrability and low running costs because, as their names suggest, they’re designed for urban life.

They do need to be big enough for a couple of adults, though, with rear-seat space sufficient for children, occasional use by adults, or for shopping bags – because boot space may be at a premium. Nippy acceleration is more important than outright speed, but you can expect most city cars to be frugal at the pumps.
