Land Rover is planning to make a pick-up version of the all-new Defender.
According to the company’s design boss, Gerry McGovern, the new addition to the range could go on sale as early as 2017, but it won’t be launched until after more conventional members of the new Defender family.
Previous reports have indicated that all-new five- and seven-seat versions of the classic Land Rover will go on sale in 2016.
McGovern admitted to What Car? that any Land Rover pick-up would be a ‘premium’ product and more in the mould of the VW Amarok than more stripped-out utilitarian rivals.
Insiders have previously revealed that the new pick-up would be a crew cab five-seater with permanent four-wheel drive and greater all-terrain ability than other vehicles on the market.
