What should I look for in a used BMW 2 Series?
When viewing a used car, always follow our used car buying checklist.
Most versions of the BMW 2 Series Coupé have large alloy wheels, so it’s possible they may have a few scuffs from kerbs. Also, check for knocks or bumps when driving; this could be because of a damaged wheel from a pothole or from the suspension itself. Inside, check for scrapes and marks on the door pillars, because it’s likely people will have had to clamber into the back seats.
Is a used BMW 2 Series reliable?
The 2 Series Coupé is too new to feature in our most recent What Car? Reliability Survey, but BMW as a brand came a respectable 8th (out of 31 manufacturers) in the overall league table. That’s a much better position than Audi (24th) and Mercedes (22nd).
A close relative of the 2 Series, the BMW 4 Series, finished in 3rd place out of 13 cars in the coupé, convertible and sports car category of the survey. It managed a score of 98.4%, which is better than the CLA (96.2%), the same as the TT, but below the 718 Cayman (99.3%).
