Brake offers free road safety training

Road safety charity Brake is calling on more family workers to take advantage of free road safety training.

The Stay Safe Family Promise course targets those most at risk on the roads, including children, by training volunteers and professionals to make road safety presentations within their community.

The half-day of training covers correctly restraining children in cars, safe driving and keeping children safe on foot and while cycling. Everyone who attends the course receives a colourful flip-chart, hand outs for parents and advice on how to give an effective presentation.

So far, volunteers and professionals who have been through the Stay Safe Family Promise programme have given more than 800 presentations reaching over 8000 parents.

However, Brake wants more family workers to take advantage of the free training. Sarah Fatica, general manager at Brake, said: It is essential we help parents understand the dangers facing their children on roads and how we can best protect them. Were urging professionals who work with families to register a place on a course today and make our communities safer places.
