What is it?
A high-performance flagship for the recently launched A5 Sportback range

What's new?
The Audi S5 Sportback follows the template set by other S-branded models. That means a powerful engine and subtle chassis and bodywork tweaks compared with the more humdrum models in the range, but not the full-on performance car makeover of the RS models.

In the S5's Sportback's case, the mechanical package includes a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, permanent four-wheel drive and a seven-speed semi-automatic gearbox. Together, they give 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph.

There's also sports suspension, speed-dependent power steering and uprated brakes, with black calipers visible through bespoke alloy wheels.

The exterior makeover is subtle and limited to metal door mirror covers, extra chrome trim and bespoke badges and wheels.

Inside, there are electrically adjustable sports seats and special leather upholstery.

How much will it cost?
Prices haven't been confirmed***, but you can buy an S5 Sportback from next spring and we'd suggest setting aside around 39,000.
