The classic Mini Cooper 3-door and Cooper 5-door hatchbacks have received a new version, called the Mini One, to act as an entry point into the range.

Aimed at new drivers, the One will be available exclusively with petrol-powered Cooper models, and will use a 1.6-litre petrol engine with a more modest output of 119bhp. With that juice, it’ll manage 0-62mph in 9.3sec – quicker than an equivalent Seat Ibiza or Volkswagen Polo.

The new engine will be available exclusively in Classic trim, which comes with LED headlights, 16in alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, a heated steering wheel, a rear-view camera and a built-in sat-nav.

Inside, it’ll likely get the same kit as other variants, with a circular 9.4in infotainment touchscreen and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring.

The new Mini One will arrive in UK showrooms in autumn. Prices start at £24,735 for the 3-door model – £750 cheaper than the next-cheapest model, the Cooper C. That brings it in line with the Audi A1.

The Mini One name was previously given to the entry-level Mini Hatch when the brand was revived by BMW back in 2001.

Mini has also introduced new Paul Smith editions of the petrol-powered 3-door and 5-door hatchbacks, as well as the Cooper Convertible, in collaboration with the classic British fashion brand. The collaboration edition was originally exclusively available with the Cooper Electric, but it has now expanded to the combustion-engined variants. These will be available with some funky exterior paint options, as well as a specially-styled interior. They will also arrive in autumn, with prices starting from £31,285.
