Space and practicality

Front space, rear space, seating flexibility, boot

If you’re hoping to justify one of these as your only car, neither will pose a stumbling block when it comes to practicality. Up front, both can comfortably seat tall adults, thanks to seats that go back a long way and reasonable head room, although the C63’s optional panoramic roof robs a bit of the latter and puts the Giulia at an advantage.

The C63 pulls ahead when it comes to storage space, though. Its door bins are larger and easier to access, and the big cubby in front of the cupholders is a great place to stow your phone when it’s charging. In the Giulia, you’ll probably have one of the cupholders permanently full of phone; there’s no other useful storage near the USB port.

There’s little in it for rear head room; both cars have enough for a couple of six-footers. The Giulia’s extra leg room better allows tall folk to lounge, though, and we wouldn’t want to clout a knee on the hard plastic backs of the C63’s front seats. That car’s broader rear bench makes it the better bet for three in the back, but whoever takes the middle seat will have to contend with a large central floor hump.

The C63’s boot can swallow one more carry-on suitcase than the Guilia’s (seven versus six), but its narrower aperture and humped floor can make stacking shopping a little more precarious. The Giulia’s flat boot floor is better. However, both cars have handy 40/20/40 folding rear seats that allow you to expand the boot at the cost of one, two or three passenger perches.
