What's the Volvo XC90 like?
Volvo's XC90 is one of our favourite large SUVs. It's a premium car, and that means it competes against the likes of the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and even the luxurious Range Rover Sport. Even amid such vast competition, though, the XC90 has made a very good case for itself.
As well as being truly spacious inside and practical for families and their luggage, the XC90 majors on safety. In fact, we named the XC90 as the winner of our Safety Award in 2015. Every version is well equipped, and this Momentum version is our favourite. You get most of the kit you're going to want including cruise control, automatic lights and wipers, leather seats, rear parking sensors and satellite navigation.
There are three engine options to choose from with the XC90 - including a frugal hybrid version - but our pick of the range is the D5 diesel you get as part of this deal. It has plenty of pulling power and returns sensible fuel economy.
Should I choose any options?
Really, you shouldn't need to, as Momentum grade gets you everything you're likely to need. That said, if you do want to splash out on your XC90 then there are two more grades to choose from, R-Design and Inscription.
R-Design cars get extra luxuries including a digital instrument cluster, larger alloy wheels and a sporty body kit, while Inscription gets you Nappa leather, an electrically adustable seat and more interior lighting.
What are its rivals?
There's big competition in this market, especially from long-estabished stalwards of the class like the Audi Q7 and BMW X5. Both are similarly practical large SUVs, and both have their strengths. The X5 is arguably more fun to drive than the XC90, while the Q7 is one of our preferred choices in this class.
The Range Rover Sport also competes here, and if you can afford its high purchase price makes a fine luxury SUV. It's also worth remembering that our favourite large SUV currently is the Land Rover Discovery Sport.
