Order books open for 700k Porsche 918

You can now place an order for Porsche's plug-in hybrid convertible, the 918 Spyder providing you have 674,000 to spend on it.
Just 918 cars will be built, with the first deliveries expected in November 2013.
The two-seat sportscar will cost 645,000 before VAT and on-the-road costs, giving it a pricetag of more than 674,000.
The 918 Spyder is powered by a 493bhp V8 petrol engine and two 160kW electric motors.
Lean and green
Despite the hefty purchase price, running costs will be comparatively inexpensive. The car will be capable of 94mpg and have CO2 emissions of just 70g/km.
Performance will be still what you would expect from a Porsche, however. The 0-62mph dash takes just 3.2 seconds and Porsche promises a top speed of 'more than' 199mph.
The 918 Spyder will have a range of 16 miles and a top speed of 94mph on electric power alone.
The roof will consist of three panels, which can be removed and stowed in the front luggage compartment.
If that's not enough...
Porsche is offering 918 customers the chance to buy special-edition coupe and convertible versions of the 911 Turbo S to compliment their hybrid car.
The 911 Turbo S 'Edition 918 Spyder' has acid green 918 logos in the interior, illuminated door entry guards and an enhanced leather interior, and additional carbon elements.
Just 918 models of the special editions will be made. First deliveries of these cars will be in June.
The Coupe version costs 125,865, while the cabriolet has a pricetag of 133,553.
