Land Rover has released images of its fastest and most powerful model ever, the new Range Rover Sport SVR, ahead of its official unveiling at Pebble Beach on 14 August.
Power will come from a version of Jaguar's 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, which in this guise produces 542bhp and up to 502 lb ft of pulling power. Permanent four-wheel drive is supplied via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The Sport SVR accelerates from 0-60mph in just 4.5 seconds and achieves an electronically limited top speed of 162mph.
Land Rover claims that its new high performance model is one of the fastest SUVs on the market, after it lapped the famous Nurgurgring track in 8 minutes and 14 seconds.
The Sport is the first model in the Jaguar Land Rover portfolio to use its new SVR designation. This signifies it’s developed by the company’s new Special Vehicles Operations division, which will be in charge of all future high performance models.
Other upgrades include new 21-inch wheels, with 22-inch wheels (the largest Land Rover have ever offered) available as an option, as well as specially developed sports seats. There are also larger grilles at the front as well as other styling tweaks to aid cooling and also add to the visual appeal of the new model. Meanwhile a two-stage active exhaust with four tailpipes at the rear will add to the aural drama.
Customers will be able to order the Range Rover Sport SVR, priced at £93,450, from October this year, with first deliveries expected to begin in early 2015.
