7. Volkswagen T-Roc
Before the recent arrival of the T-Cross, the T-Roc was Volkswagen's smallest SUV. It sits on a structure that's near-identical to that of the Golf hatchback, and as a result is good to drive and available with some great engines. However, Volkswagen skimped a bit on the interior, swapping the Golf's squishy plastics for harder materials that feel cheaper.

6. Seat Ateca
The Ateca was Seat's first ever SUV, but it's one of the best family SUVs around. It's spacious inside, offers class-leading handling and is keenly priced – and that's before you take our Target Price discounts into account. All in all, it's a very impressive package.

5. Kia e-Niro
It's little wonder that the e-Niro makes it onto this list – after all, it's our 2019 Car of the Year. This fully-electric SUV offers plenty of equipment, reasonable space and a long range. In fact, in our Real Range tests, the e-Niro showed it could drive for more than 250 miles between charges in real-world conditions.
