Top 10 used SUVs for less than £10,000
You don't need a big budget to get a desirable, family-friendly SUV. Here we count down the top 10 you can buy used for less than £10,000 – and reveal the one to avoid...
7. Suzuki Ignis
It's one of the smallest SUV offerings on the market, but as a result of that, the Suzuki Ignis also offers tremendous value. £10,000 buys you an example that's only a year or so old, with low mileage and a big chunk of the five-year warranty left over.
What's more, its diminutive dimensions make it ideal in the city, yet inside, there's space for four adults and a very reasonable-sized boot. Engines aren't the most potent, the ride can be flummoxed by bigger bumps and there's quite a bit of road noise at speed, but if you want a funky little SUV that works in town, the Ignis should be high on your list.
Make no mistake, this Tiguan would finish a lot higher up this top 10 if you could buy a slightly newer one for the £10k cash. Our money does just get you the latest generation, but an early version from 2016. True, it doesn’t look that exciting, but it is practical, efficient and refined, and comes with VW’s usual high standards of build quality. It's also safe and efficient, and spacious, solid and dependable.
All in, a very desirable and deservedly popular SUV.
5. Skoda Yeti
The Yeti ran from 2009 to 2017, and was a huge success. Chunky, Tonka-toy looks, blistered wheel arches, oversized roof rails and lower-body cladding ensured this was the case, and then there was the name: that of a large, hairy abominable snowman. Fortunately, there is nothing abominable about this practical and economical SUV. You can choose from a good range of engines and, whichever you choose, all Yetis have excellent driving manners and plenty of interior space.
The later Outdoor models added a bit more rough-and-tumble to its undoubted appeal. Our budget buys you one of the last Yetis, but it sold well throughout its life so it shouldn't be as hard to track down as that snowman.
