Two new trim levels have been announced for plug-in hybrid (eHybrid) versions of the Volkswagen Passat estate car, replacing the current Life and R-Line specifications.
The new options will add extra features on top of what was already on offer with the outgoing trim levels at no extra cost.

Match trim arrives in place of entry-level Life trim, and it will offer all the same standard kit as before, including creature comforts like three-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control and ambient interior lighting. At no extra cost, you’ll also get metallic paint, LED Matrix headlights, tinted rear windows and a driving assist pack – which, according to Volkswagen, would normally cost £3890 if ordered as options.
A new range-topping Black Edition trim will replace the outgoing R-Line spec. As you might have guessed, it brings all-black styling to take the place of the sportier flourishes R-Line models offered, and it introduces a number of features previously only available as options. Those include 19in alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, heated front and rear seats, a head-up display and a larger 15.0in infotainment touchscreen (compared with 12.9in on other trims). According to Volkswagen, those would normally cost £4905 as options.

Entry-level Match trim will be available exclusively with the less-powerful eHybrid version of the Passat, which combines a 1.5-litre 201bhp petrol engine with a 19.7kWh battery, good for an official electric-only range of 83 miles.
Black Edition will be available with both that version and the more powerful 268bhp engine, which can officially cover 77 miles on electric power alone.

Mild hybrid versions of the Passat will continue to be available with Life and R-Line trims.
The new Match and Black Edition trims will be available to order from mid-August, at the same price as the trims they replace. That means a Volkswagen Passat Match eHybrid is priced at £44,555, while the new Black Edition eHybrids cost £48,900 and £51,420 for the 201bhp and 268bhp versions respectively.
