Performance & drive

What it’s like to drive, and how quiet it is

The only engine available in the Corolla Commercial is a 1.8-litre petrol hybrid, as found in the entry-level Toyota Corolla Touring Sports. In both cars, it produces a relatively modest 120bhp, so it’s not the fastest of units, as shown by the official 0-62mph time – 11.1sec. Performance is adequate for most situations, but you’ll wish you had more oomph for overtaking.

When it comes to ride quality, the Corolla Commercial sets itself apart from rivals, because overall it’s very supple and well controlled. Even without any cargo (and with no rear seats to add weight, remember), it doesn't feel too bouncy or uncomfortable. The standard steel wheels are 15in, which is on the small side, but don’t get swallowed up by large potholes.
