The model
Read full Audi RS4 Avant reviewThe Audi RS4 Avant can be very comfortable in the right spec, but it’s outclassed on handling by performance car rivals that include the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and BMW M3. And, if it's specifically a fast estate you want, the BMW Alpina B3 Touring is even quicker, just as nice inside and better to drive.
The trim
See full equipmentVery pricey, but very well kitted out. Over the standard RS4 you get 20in alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats, a powered tailgate, keyless entry, a B&O 19-speaker stereo, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, blind spot recognition, an RS sports exhaust, Dynamic Ride Control and an increased 174mph top speed.
The engine
See full engine specsThe RS4 packs more than enough punch for the German Autobahn. With 444bhp, it can get from 0-62mph in just 4.1sec and onto an electronically limited top speed of 155mph (this can be increased to 174mph as an option). That performance comes courtesy of a turbocharged V6; an engine shared with the Porsche Panamera 4S. In normal use, it’s a smooth and refined unit that fades into the background, while in Dynamic mode, it howls and parps. However, a turbocharged V6 will never be able to compete with the monstrous V8 in the C63 – an engine that sounds truly wonderfully and more engaging at almost any speed.
