The Citroën C5 X is undercut on price by the MG HS but is still competitively priced by large SUV standards. A base model will cost cash buyers less than the equivalent Ford Kuga, Mazda CX-5 and Skoda Kodiaq. It's a bargain compared with the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento and Peugeot 5008. The PHEV model is competitively priced among plug-in hybrids too.
On the minus side, the C5 X is predicted to depreciate at a faster rate than its closest rivals. This could make the C5 X a costly proposition for private buyers, although it doesn’t appear to have an impact on the competitive monthly PCP finance deals available. Mid-range Shine adds plenty of useful extras, including a heated steering wheel, a larger 12in infotainment screen and a head-up display. It's certainly worth thinking about.
The range-topping Shine Plus versions adds heated and electrically adjustable ‘Paloma’ leather seats, acoustically insulated front and rear windows, an electric tailgate, blind-spot detection and a 360-degree reversing camera.
Reliability
The C5 X was too new to feature in our 2021 What Car? Reliability Survey but Citroën was one of the 30 car makers included. It finished in 11th place, above Honda, Peugeot, Seat and Skoda but below Hyundai, Kia, MG and Mazda.
You get a two-year, unlimited-mileage warranty from Citroën and an additional one year’s cover provided by the dealer. Citroën allows you to extend your warranty for a fee. Kia's impressive seven years of cover soundly beats that.
