What should I look for in a used Genesis GV60?
When viewing a used car, always follow our used car buying checklist.
As with any used car, it’s always important to check the bodywork and wheels for damage. Also, it’s worth inspecting the interior for signs of wear and tear (especially on cars with lighter interiors), as well as the interior electronics.
Is a used Genesis GV60 reliable?
The GV60 finished in 18th place out of 27 cars in the electric SUV category of our latest What Car? Reliability Survey, with a score of 87.3%. That’s not as good as the Tesla Model Y, which came third in the survey with a score of 97.1%, but it was significantly better than the VW ID 4, which came last with a score of 79.6%.
Genesis as a brand didn’t feature in the manufacturer section of our survey, but Hyundai and Kia – Genesis’s sister brands – did, finishing in 14th and eighth place respectively. That’s below BMW and Tesla, but above Audi, Volkswagen and Mercedes.
Used Genesis GV60 reliability: the owners’ view
According to our latest What Car? Reliability Survey, the Genesis GV60 has a mixed record for dependability, with a significant divide in owner experience. Several readers praised the car as "near flawless" even after two years of ownership, enjoying a peaceful time with their car. However, others reported serious reliability issues involving the car breaking down due to a charging fault linked to the 12V battery not charging, which they described as a major concern.
Faults also extended to software and electrical glitches. One owner reported that a system update, intended to add wireless phone connectivity, "borked the remote software," preventing them from sending remote commands or receiving alerts. The car was also subject to a safety recall for rear drive shafts, requiring a trip to the service network.
On a more positive note, the brand's unique dealer service model, which involves a personal assistant arranging for the car to be collected and returned with a loaner vehicle, was often cited as a major strength. However, the quality of this service varied, with one reader noting it had "taken a nosedive" and resulted in long waiting times for the month-long repair of their charging fault.
