Volvo XC90 B5 verdict

If you’re really keen to push the eco boat out, you might well be eyeing up our Plug-in Hybrid of the Year, the XC90 T8. While running costs are hard to compare, due to that model's ability to run on electric power alone for up to 24 miles, it's more than £10,000 pricier than the B5. So, even if you can really make the most of the T8's plug-in capabilities, the B5 isn't just an enticing option but our pick of the XC90 range.

However, while we appreciate its efficiency advantages, it's still not the luxury SUV we'd pick. No, the Q7 handles better, is more comfortable and a fair bit quicker. Throw in an even plusher interior and it remains the luxury SUV to beat.
