The Hyundai ix35 crossover will cost from 16,495 in two-wheel drive form and 18,995 as a four-wheel drive car.

That undercuts the price of rivals such as the Peugeot 3008 our Car of the Year 2010 the Ford Kuga and VW Tiguan.

Equipment isn't sacrificed
There no scrimping on equipment either the entry-level Style model comes with air-conditioning, alloy wheels, stability control, Bluetooth, heated front and rear seats, electric door mirrors and reversing sensors.

Premium trim is 1750 more expensive, but adds dual-zone climate control, larger alloys, a panoramic sunroof, automatic headlights, cruise control, folding door mirrors, and keyless entry and engine start.

Entry-level prices for the range will drop later in the year when a smaller 1.6-litre petrol and 1.7-litre diesel join the 2.0-litre engines that are available at the cars launch on March 25.
