Van and Commercial Vehicle Awards 2023: Best Electric Van

In the past, large electric vans like the Ford E-Transit were a very rare sight on UK roads. While small and medium sized electric vans have made growing sense for businesses for some time, large vans, which need to balance load-lugging capacity and electric range very delicately, have largely remained the domain of diesel. Until now, that is, because the best of them now has an electric motor.
With an official range of 196 miles (in chassis cab form), the choice of 25 different combinations of motor, height and length, the E-Transit represents the first of a new generation of electric vans. That is, vans which make sense both as working vehicles and as green transport solutions. It offers carrying capacity a van driver could want; in fact, with load volumes of up to 15.1m3 and a payload capacity of up to 1758kg, the E-Transit can carry more than its electric van rivals
Indeed, the E-Transit goes further than any other electric van in making life easy for its occupants. The Pro Power Onboard function, for example, lets drivers run anything from power tools to lights directly from the van’s power supply, rather than needing to carry an extra generator.
Meanwhile, the growing sales support service from Ford Pro helps buyers to do everything from tracking their fleet to installing the necessary charging infrastructure to keep it moving.
And then there’s the way the E-Transit drives. It’s more agile and involving than the Maxus e-Deliver 9, Mercedes eSprinter or Volkswagen e-Crafter, while also being comfortable and well equipped as standard.
There’s a lot more to come from Ford’s electric van range – not least the smaller E-Transit Custom coming in 2023 – but if this E-Transit is anything to go by, the future is rosy indeed for van drivers looking to go green.
