Don’t think the Vauxhall Astra GTC is just a three-door version of the Astra hatchback. In fact, the GTC doesn’t share a single body panel with the five-door Astra. It also has a longer wheelbase, a wider front- and rear track, more sophisticated front suspension, revised rear suspension, and sits 15mm lower.
The sharper, more focused driving experience means the Astra GTC is a rival for sporty coupes like the VW Scirocco.
The pick of the engine range is the turbocharged 1.6 with 178bhp. It's not quite a hot hatch, but the performance is still impressively strong and responsive. There are also two turbocharged 1.4s, one with 118bhp and the other with 138bhp. Diesel buyers are catered for with the 163bhp 2.0CDTI.
You’ll also have two trims to choose from. Sport cars come with alloys, air-conditioning, and a DAB radio, which is all most people will need. SRi cars, meanwhile, add xenon headlamps and automatic lights and wipers.
