The Civic is fairly compact on the outside but provides plenty of leg room and head room up front. Even very tall adults won’t have a problem.
Storage space is reasonably good, with a decent glovebox and door bins that will hold a large bottle. The centre console features a cubby/cupholder area with a sliding cover and a large bin beneath the central armrest.
Honda Civic rear space
Two adults sat behind two adults in the front won’t have any problems with rear leg room, but because of the way the Civic’s roofline slopes down towards the rear of the car, head room is at more of a premium. Indeed, adults nearing six foot may find their head brushing the Civic ceiling, while the way the rear windows pinch towards the rear makes the whole space feel quite claustrophobic, too.
Three adults across the rear bench will be a squeeze, and the raised floor makes it difficult for the middle passenger to find space for their feet. At least each rear door comes with a decent-sized pocket that will take a medium water bottle with ease.
Honda Civic seating flexibility
The Civic’s seating flexibility is nothing special. All versions come with 60/40 split-folding rear seats seats as standard, which lie completely parallel with the boot floor once down. However, the rear seats don't slide back and forth or recline, and there's no folding front passenger seat to allow you to carry really long items.
It’s also a shame that Honda has done away with the previous-generation Civic’s cinema-style Magic rear seats, which had bases that flipped up, allowing you to use the rear seat area for extra storage.
Honda Civic boot space
At 478 litres (including underfloor storage), the Civic's boot is larger than that of the Golf and Leon, but the Octavia's boot is even bigger. The Civic's load bay is easy to access, though, and it isn’t too far from the ground, while there are some useful touches such as a 12v power socket inside. It's just a shame there's a big lip at the boot entrance.
It’s also worth bearing in mind thatm due to the fitment of a dual exhaust, Sport and Sport Plus models have slightly less boot space at 420 litres .
